What Is Reiki?
A Gentle Guide to Usui Reiki, Symbols, and Intuitive Practice
Reiki is a simple, natural system of energy healing that supports relaxation, balance, and well-being. The modern form of Reiki was founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1920s. From Usui-sensei’s teachings, Reiki spread worldwide through his students and the practitioners who followed.
In practice, Reiki involves light, non-invasive touch (or hands just above the body) to encourage the flow of energy and activate the body’s natural ability to restore balance. Many people report feeling calmer, sleeping better, and experiencing reduced stress after sessions.
Reiki is recognised by the NHS and some health services in the UK use Reiki practitioners as part of complementary care. It is safe and gentle, and can be used alongside any medications or treatments for health conditions or disorders. Reiki is a beautiful, gentle form of self-healing and also a healing practice for everyone.
What you’ll learn with me
I teach both the traditional Usui approach and intuitive Reiki—working with your sensitivity so you can listen, trust, and respond to what a client needs in the moment.
Level I (Shoden): Foundations, self-treatment, energy awareness, hand positions, practice with partners.
Level II (Okuden): Professional skills and the classic Usui symbols—Cho Ku Rei, Sei He Ki, and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen—plus distance and intuitive techniques. You’ll also learn client care and ethics so you feel confident working with others.
I’ve been a Master Reiki Practitioner since 2010, and it’s a joy to share this work with new students every year.
