What Is Reiki?
A Gentle Guide to Usui Reiki, Symbols, and Intuitive Practice
Reiki is a simple, natural system of energy healing that supports relaxation, balance, and well-being. The modern form of Reiki was founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1920s. From Usui-sensei’s teachings, Reiki spread worldwide through his students and the practitioners who followed.
In practice, Reiki involves light, non-invasive touch (or hands just above the body) to encourage the flow of energy and activate the body’s natural ability to restore balance. Many people report feeling calmer, sleeping better, and experiencing reduced stress after sessions.
Reiki is recognised by the NHS and some health services in the UK use Reiki practitioners as part of complementary care. It is safe and gentle, and can be used alongside any medications or treatments for health conditions or disorders. Reiki is a beautiful, gentle form of self-healing and also a healing practice for everyone.
What you’ll learn with me
I teach both the traditional Usui approach and intuitive Reiki—working with your sensitivity so you can listen, trust, and respond to what a client needs in the moment.
Level I (Shoden): Foundations, self-treatment, energy awareness, hand positions, practice with partners.
Level II (Okuden): Professional skills and the classic Usui symbols—Cho Ku Rei, Sei He Ki, and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen—plus distance and intuitive techniques. You’ll also learn client care and ethics so you feel confident working with others.
I’ve been a Master Reiki Practitioner since 2010, and it’s a joy to share this work with new students every year.

🏥 Reiki and the NHS
Reiki is increasingly recognised by the NHS as a safe and supportive therapy. It is offered in hospitals, hospices, and cancer support centres. Reiki complements medical treatment and can ease side effects while boosting your sense of calm and wellbeing.
💊 Works alongside any medication
Reiki is 100% non-invasive and safe to use with any medication or health condition, even if you're managing multiple treatments or prescriptions. Reiki does not interfere with drugs or therapies and can help reduce stress, fatigue, and discomfort.
💼 Reiki Level 2: Building Towards Practice
To become a Reiki Practitioner, you’ll first complete Level 1 (Shoden). This gives you the foundations of Reiki: self-healing, hand positions, energy awareness, and confidence in working with family and friends.
Once you have completed Level 1, you can progress to Level 2 (Okuden). This is the training where many students choose to begin their journey towards professional practice.
At Level 2 you will:
Deepen your understanding with the Reiki symbols.
Learn distance and intuitive Reiki techniques.
Explore ethics and client care.
Gain the confidence to start sharing Reiki with clients.
I also include guidance on marketing and starting your Reiki practice — so if you feel called to build a business around Reiki, you’ll leave with practical steps to begin.
✨ Reiki Level 2 isn’t just about learning — it’s about opening the door to a new path, whether part-time, full-time, or alongside your current career.
